Transgender passengers have undergone heightened scrutiny when passing through airport security checkpoints.
That word comes from Al Jazeera, which obtained documents through the Freedom of Information Act. Among them are civil rights complaints, incident reports and internal memos and emails from the DHS’s office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties and the Transportation Security Administration.
According to Al Jazeera, the documents show that transgender travelers have been required to undergo pat-down searches by officers of the opposite gender and reveal personal gender based items, among other issues.
